Activities

Bi-Weekly Meetings – Every other Tuesday a guest speaker from a public accounting or private industry firm will speak on a relevant topic relating to accounting issues, the recruiting process, interviewing skills, networking, or career opportunities with their company.  Dinner  will be provided for all members following each meeting.

Daily Tutoring Sessions - Members help Accounting 211 and 212 students with basic Accounting materials daily. There are tutors available Monday through Friday during various hours of the day.

Firm Tours – Throughout the year, CPA firms located in the Columbus areas sponsor tours of their offices.  You will have the opportunity to speak with professionals at different levels, allowing familiarization with the firm’s auditing, tax, and management consulting departments.

Development Workshops – Throughout the year, Firms will present interactive workshops to help answer commonly asked questions, such as: “What should I say to a recruiter? What should I wear to a firm event? How do I sign-up for interviews?”  Participation in these workshops will help you learn business etiquette and networking skills while also getting to know your fellow Accounting Association members.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) – In the Fall, Accounting Association members assist in the preparation of tax returns for low-income families in the Columbus community.

Quarterly Banquet & Special Events

Winter Quarter

Night With Corporate America - Between 12 and 20 regional and national companies attend to make presentations about opportunities in private industry accounting. After the presentations, there is a social hour for members to talk more with companies that interest them. All representatives receive a book containing the resumes of all Accounting Association members.

The Etiquette Dinner - PriceWaterhouseCoopers sponsors an etiquette dinner for the Accounting Association members at an upscale restaurant.

Spring Quarter

PWC Fashion Show - We will be showing off some current styles as well as explaining just what the difference is between casual, business casual, and business professional.  We will also be discussing what it means to begin a professional wardrobe and how to take care of it once you have one.

Winter Quarter Internship Night - The Department of Accounting co-sponsors this informative event to aid students in the internship/job search within public accounting. The format, new this year, starts with a 45 minute panel discussion, where a moderator representing students asks some commonly pondered questions to a panel of 4 firm associates (chosen at random). After that, everyone enjoys refreshments as companies set up booths and are available to ask questions to, network with, and to learn about their firms.

KPMG vs. PWC Relay for Life Challenge - All OSU Accounting Students are invited to participate in joining either the KPMG or PWC Relay for Life Team. This event is a friendly face off to see which team can raise more money for the American Cancer Society.

Fall Quarter

The Fall Banquet - This is the Accounting Association's largest event. All companies and firms that have a relationship with the Accounting Association are invited to attend this networking event. The event starts with a social hour for students to mingle and network with accounting professionals. Then there is a formal dinner served, and students are seated at tables with company representatives of their choice in order to allow for more in depth conversations than during the social hour. There is always either a speaker or some other form of entertainment that follows the dinner. In addition, an award is given to the outstanding member of the organization. All representatives receive a book containing the resumes of all Accounting Association members.
